A Little About Plywood

Hardwood plywood is generally used for finer applications such as wall panels and furniture construction. Hardwood plywood has several advantages:

Renewable Resource - natural product from a renewable resource.

Beautiful - preferred because of its warmth and natural markings.

Strength - unique cross-layered structure makes it pound for pound, stronger than steel.

Efficiency - uses more of the log than lumber.

Versatility - can be bent and formed to meet various sizes and shapes.

Durability - long-lasting and good resistance to damage.

Softwood plywood is generally used for construction and structural purposes. Softwood plywood is assembled with woods from evergreen, or needle bearing coniferous trees, such as pine, spruce or fir.

Plywood Grades

The term "grade" may refer to a veneer grade or a panel grade.

Veneer grades define veneer appearance in terms of natural un-repaired growth characteristics and allowable number and size of repairs that may be made during manufacture. The highest quality veneer is "A" and the lowest is "E." The minimum grade of veneer permitted in Exterior plywood is "C." "D" grade veneer is used only in panels intended for interior use or for applications protected form permanent exposure to the weather.
